How Long Shall We Wait For Change

For many years Basotho have been crying for reforms but it seems the more their tears wet the land the more change is delayed. It has been part of the government's mandate to make reforms to the current government policies. It has been a bit over fifteen years since we have been patiently anticipating the change that was promised to us more than three terms ago.

As the sun sets again tonight, a family sits around the fire listening to radio station hoping to hear good news from the big orange city.

I wrote this poem two years back in enticipation too.

A New Beginning

By Smith Khethisa

Wake up and smell the coffee, wake up

the sun is waiting for you, wake up and

do what you got to do the world is

waiting for you,

wake and make a difference your future

depends on it, the smell of the roses

soaking in morning dew should inspire

some ideas on your mind, the bright

morning sunshine should ignite a spark

of hope, things have changed,

today is not yesterday, today is not

yesterday's failed dreams and

aspirations, today is a clear page so

draw a new picture, today is an

opportunity to prove yourself once

more.

You are a child of the blazing African

sun, you are a child of the southern

sands, born and raised in fear and pain,

the stars are your guardians, the dark

moon is your mother, you are powerful

and pregnant with fire stories, who are

you? Are you a true descendent to this

sandy land.

I ask you once more". U mang kajeno

setloholo sa Moshoeshoe, u mang

kajeno ha mahlaseli a letsatsi a u tsosa,

u mang ha mehalalitoe ea lithota e

chakatsa,

u mang ha qhoaqhoane e qhebeliha

melapong le melatsoaneng, u mang ha

likhomo li oroha le ba banyane, u sale

mosepheli oa tsela ea maoba le

maobane, u sa nyahame kapa u qalile

tsela e ncha, u sa nyahame kapa u

hlasela thota bocha kajeno. U mang ha'na ke le mora Khethisa khotola oa

Joang le morali oa Moliboea Bokong

Ha 'Mikia. U mang oena?
